Obama's Bling, A gift from Saudi King

Obama necklaceU.S. President Obama receive this controversial gift during his visit to Saudia Arabia. A massive 18 karat gold chain necklace, from Saudi Arabia King Abdullah. King Abdullah welcomed Obama at his luxurious desert horse farm, introducing him to all manner of princes and dignitaries. After a brief chat on gilded chairs while sipping cardamom-flavored Arabic coffee, the King presented the president with the gigantic gold necklace called the King Abdul Aziz Order of Merit, the nation's highest honor. According to the news the estimate value of the said necklace is US$ 25000 worth of gold.


But there is this rules forbid U.S. officials from keeping most gifts given by foreign representatives. They have to turn them over to the government. Most gifts given to a president quickly end up in a warehouse, only a sampling of them to emerge years later in a presidential library.
